Volunteers

Volunteers started the Highland Friendship Club and are the foundation of its success.  You can sign-up online to become a Highland Friendship Club volunteer. Complete the form and send it to us, we will contact you to talk about the many opportunities available.  We have daytime, evening and weekend volunteer opportunities available, most in two hour time slots.  Sign up now to be a HFC volunteer using the online volunteer form.

Program Volunteers

Do you like to cook or play video games?  Or maybe you like to work out or do yoga?  Love art?  Program volunteers help at HFC activities and provide one-to-one support for HFC members.  Most activities last two hours and all involve doing something FUN!

Event Volunteers

HFC has a variety of one-time or on-going event volunteer opportunities available.  Volunteer positions include: registration table support, silent auction organizer and retreat lunch helper.  HFC’s three main events are the Ticket to Friendship fundraiser (June), the annual retreat with Cretin-Derham Hall (October) and the Lanes for Friendship fundraiser (December)

Volunteer FAQ’s

How old do you have to be to volunteer?

Program and event volunteers are 15 years old or older.  If you are younger than 15 and still want to volunteer, give us a call and we’ll talk with you about how you can help.

Do I need fill out any forms to become a volunteer?

All program and event volunteers must complete the on-line HFC volunteer application.  Program volunteers must also complete a background check form.  We will mail one of these to you after you have made a commitment to be a HFC volunteer.  All program volunteers also have a short interview with the program coordinator before they begin volunteering at activities.  Event volunteers do not have to complete a background check as they are not working directly with HFC members.

Do I have to have any special training?

No. All you need is an interest in working with people with disabilities, respect for everyone's individual abilities, gifts and talents, enthusiasm and a sense of humor. Highland Friendship Club has paid staff members who are trained to work with people with disabilities. They will make sure you are comfortable with your volunteer role and help you when necessary.

If I sign-up to help at an activity, will there be other volunteers there too?

It depends on the activity. One of the nice things about the Highland Friendship Club is that we always have lots of volunteers and everyone works together. You'll meet a lot of great people.  In many cases, you'll be working alongside our members at an event or service activity.  HFC staff will be there to provide guidance and assistance.

How will I know what to do when I volunteer for an HFC activity or event?

HFC program staff or the lead volunteer at the event will tell you exactly what to do and who to turn to for help before the activity or event begins.  You will receive emails from us about your volunteer duties so you will know what to expect when you get to your volunteer job.

My organization needs volunteers for a special community service project. I heard that the Highland Friendship Club often does service projects. Who should I talk to about a possible partnership?
